=========================================================================== Boeing 707-138B Reg. VH-EBH "City of Darwin" of QANTAS Visual and AFX by Les Penridge Flight model by Brian Horsey (for FS51 and FS98) =========================================================================== Trans-Pacific Australia to USA: Post-Propliners from 1959. This model depicts VH-EBH "City of Darwin", one of the 707-138Bs purchased new during the upgrade of the original 138s in the Qantas fleet during 1961. The Pratt & Whitney JT3C-6 engines were replaced with more efficient and powerful JT3D-1 turbofan engines. The vertical stabiliser was enlarged by 3 feet, a ventral fin added, and leading edge flaps fitted. With the improved performance, refuelling stops could be reduced and the strip on Canton Is was not required. The refurbished fleet of 707-138Bs carried the distinctive red Qantas tail inscribed "V-Jet". By 1964 Qantas was operating 13 model 138Bs and in 1965 acquired the first of the larger 338C models. The 138Bs were gradually phased out and were all replaced by the end of 1969. VH-EBH was sold to British West India Airways re-registered as 9Y-TDC.
