Well since I now have access to a capture card, I felt like I should test it out. And I said to myself, "What should I record?" Well, since I didn't want to offend too many commercial interests I decided against one of my AnimEigo LDs (I wonder how the BGC CD-ROM will look though...). But then I remembered my anime PC-Engine games. Everybody seems to have seen the 3rd game (I might grab some things from that later if somebody in the world shows an interest ), but I think a lot fewer have seen the 2nd one (the digital comic one). So, I brought out the old thing, plugged it in, and digitized the opening for you. Since it is a CD-ROM system (with very limited buffer memory), the animation isn't spectactular, but with the animation compression setting in QT, it works beautifully! I was amazed that it only took 8MB for 2 minutes (ish) instead of 15 (like my Sailor Moon one is... I'll upload that if I see some interest too...). You will see odd lines accross the window, but that's the expense of the compression (it's 60MB raw if you don't want to lose quality :) ). So this is an Apple Quicktime movie (160x120 I believe). I specifically stripped it of it's resource fork so it should work on non-macs (X-windows, Microsoft Windows, etc) with QT for it, as well as the good old Mac. Ver 1.6.2 was used, but I think older versions should handle it... And the sound is 22mhz Mono. (rather good quality too) It's binhqxed just to annoy others while helping mac users I guess. And gzipped to save 3 MB for the good old FTP site too. If you have any problems with this, want to thank/flame me, want a different format (I could do it in AVI I guess.... but who would want to :) ), or generally like sending mail, I can be reached probably the easiest at "ub342@freenet.victoria.bc.ca" and it should find me. Enjoy! -MJ ("Gim" elsewhere)
