Chemical Markup Language

Chemical Markup Language

Chemical Markup Language brings the power of SGML to the management of chemical information. In simple terms it is "HTML with Molecules", but there is a great deal more. CML, and associated tools, allows for the conversion of current files without semantic loss, structured documents including chemical publications, and precise location of information within files.

CML is seen as a collaborative project - carried out in the public arena - with examples from many disciplines. I update it frequently - which is why there are fine version numbers. However, I intend that version 0.7 is taken as a 'frozen version' which developers can use for testing the concept and developing tools. Within each version the DTD will remain constant, as will the postprocessing tools. I may alter the documentation and the examples, rather than keeping them to a new version.

Here is a README

CML has many components, all of which are free and I have assembled them all here. Some you may have already.

Version 0.6f is now in place. Apart from the documentation, this is beginning to become stable. START HERE if you haven't visited this site before. It has a list of examples, many screen shots, up-to-date documentation (nearly) for the DTDs and contains all the packages required to build it.

Nov 27. Version 0.6e has been uploaded. It's a patch version (dtd/ cost/ examples/ and src/) and also contains the Tix widgets. The DTD is NOT compatible with 0.6d, but I hope this is close to the end of the major DTD changes.
